Financial Assistance

Emergency Financial Assistance:

CEAC (Community Emergency Assistance Coalition):  Emergency financial assistance for temporary hardships awarded weekly.  Call Housing Solutions for the Southwest (970) 259-1086 for information on how to apply.

Womenade: One time grant of up to $500 for temporary hardships awarded every other month.  For La Plata County Residents only.  Apply through the Women’s Resource Center (970) 247-1242.

Salvation Army:  Emergency assistance on case by case basis:  deposits, rent, utilities, auto payments, daycare.  Also vouchers for transportation, prescriptions.  970-317-2094


Utilities: 

LEAP (Low Income Energy Assistance Program): Assistance with heating bills November 1 – April 30th.  Applications available at the Women’s Resource Center or the Department of Human Services, 1060 E. 2nd Ave., Durango.

EOC (Energy Outreach Colorado): Assistance with past due heating bills not covered by LEAP, outside of the LEAP assistance period, or for those who do not qualify for LEAP.  Apply through Housing Solutions of the Southwest (970) 259-1086 or La Plata Family Center (970) 385-4747.

Lifeline: Provides discounts on telephone service (cell or landline) for qualifying low-income individuals.  (888) 641-8722


Vouchers:

 

Women’s Resource Center: Thrift store vouchers for professional clothing. Stop by our office at 679 E 2nd Ave, #6, Durango, CO.

 


Government Assistance Programs:

La Plata County Department of Human Services: Administers a variety of programs offering public assistance to women, children, elderly, disabled, and low-income residents, including TANF, food stamps, Medicaid, and subsidized childcare.  (970) 382-6150, 10 Burnett Court, First Floor, Durango.

Social Security: Retirement benefits and benefits for persons with disabilities.  (888) 472-6115 (local office), (800) 772-1213 (24-hour recorded information and services)
