The
Women's Resource Center will be closed on Monday, July 5, in
recognition of the July 4th Holiday. We will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on
Tuesday, July 6.

Small Business Center consultations at WRC
Noon to 4 p.m. , Women's Resource Center
Joe
Keck, executive director of the Small Business Development Center at
Fort Lewis College, will be available for one-hour business
consultations starting at noon on Monday, July 12. You should
have a good idea of what you want to do and an outline of a business
plan before meeting with Keck. Call the WRC at 247-1242 to make an appointment.

(Do-It-Yourself) Divorce Clinic
6 to 8:30 p.m., Durango Public Library
Do-it-yourself
divorce clinics are held the second Monday of the month from 6 to 8:30
p.m. at the Durango Public Library. The clinics are offered on the
second month of each month by Colorado Legal Services, the Southwest
Bar Volunteer Legal Aid, and the Women's Resource Center. Free legal
services may be available for qualifying individuals based on income.

Sharpen business skills during the Women's Small Business Conference
8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel in Durango
A
full-day of workshops, opportunities for one-on-one business
consultations, and networking will be offered as part of the Southwest
Colorado Women's Small Business Conference scheduled for 8 a.. to 4
p.m. on Wednesday, July 14, at the Doubletree Hotel in Durango.
Sponsored by the Small Business Development Center at Fort Lewis College, the conference will include the following:

Wild Women Writing group meets at Crossroads
The next Wild Women
Writing group will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, in
the Crossroads Building Conference Room 308 at 1199 Main Ave. Wild
Women Writing is open
to both published and unpublished writers who are interested in
fiction, nonfiction, journaling, screenwriting, poetry or another
format. The Writer's Group offers a safe environment to share ideas,
create and read original compositions, and receive kind, constructive
feedback. There is no fee to join the WRC Writer's Group! For more

Climb a "Fourteener" Fund-Raiser for Volunteers of America
8 a.m. til ???? at Handies Peak
Volunteers of
America will host a mountain-climbing expedition on Handies Peak
starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, at the American Basin
trailhead for Handies. Hikers are invited to raise funds for their
climb and earn incentive rewards for funds raised. Proceeds benefit the Southwest Safehouse and Durango Community Shelter. Sign up packets are available on the VOA Web site at www.voacolorado.org/southerncolorado or by calling 259-1021.

Tickets go on sale for Girls Night Out
Ticket sales for
Girls Night Out go on sale beginning today at Maria's Bookshop, Rylee
Mac's Market and Cooking School, the Women's Resource Center, and
online at wrcdurango.org. Tickets for the festive event are $45 each.
Girls Night Out will be at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10, at the Blue

TOP, a juried garment design exhibition and auction, applications due
10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Durango Arts Center
New Face
Productions, a fund- and awareness-raising group that supports the
Durango Arts Center, seeks artists for TOP, a juried garment-design
exhibition and auction that will be on Saturday, Oct. 16, at the
Durango Arts Center. Artists are invited to create designs for a
high-quality t-shirt-style garment for a juried fashion show and
auction. Selected artists will receive 50 percent of the commission on
successfully auction designs.
Applications will be accepted and artists will pick up the garments for
the show between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Durango Arts Center.
Finished garments must be submitted by Wedneday, Sept. 15. Artists who
will be included in the fashion show will be notified by Oct. 1. For

Connections TAMBO Respite Program
Community Connections’ Tambo
Respite Program seeks volunteers
to participate in a group respite time for children with special needs.
Tambo meets one Saturday per month at the Mason Center in Durango, and
the program needs volunteers to serve as “buddies”
during a fun evening of recreation and socialization. A criminal

Women's
Wellness Connection
WRC is a supporter of The Women's Wellness Connection
and encourages women to stay healthy. No woman should go without annual
breast and cervical screenings. To insure that every woman has access,
the Women's Wellness Connection program, offers Pap tests, mammograms
and clinical breast exams to women ages 40-64. These services are free
of charge to women who live in Colorado, are legal residents, have no
health insurance or are underinsured, and meet income qualifications.
The screenings are offered by Planned Parenthood and San Juan Basin
Health Department. To find out if they are eligible, women may call a
state hotline at 1-800-951-WELL or locally call B.J. Boucher with the
American Cancer Society at 259-3527.
