Many Facets of 'One Planet' Explored at 2006 WomenFest

Mother Earth took center stage at the 2006 WomenFest conference on November 4. From creating a "greener home" to the benefits of natural medicine, workshops delved into how participants could be more in touch with their home planet.

Some classes were more "down to earth" such as travel writing, environmental toxicity and water-wise landscaping. Others explored ethereal topics such as using our dreams to heal the earth and embracing psychic tools for daily living.

The day opened with a witty and moving address by Beth Warren of KSUT Radio who described her life's journey and her philosophies of living life to the fullest. A lively tradeshow kept participants busy during the lunch hour.

Sponsors included: First National Bank of Durango, Maria's Book Shop, Advertising Innovations and MacKenzie Architecture.

Many thanks to all presenters, tradeshow staff, volunteers and the planning committee for making the event such a success.

Finger painting and decoupage helped participants reach their inner muse in a workshop called The Sacred Wild.

Hollis Hassenstein of Native Roots Garden Center brought the outdoors inside for a workshop on water-wise gardens.

Annette Dinelli gives Barbara Elliot a quick chair massage between workshops.

Kendra Whitaker of Spirit Mountain Botanicals gave helpful tips on herbs to fight off colds and flues.

Dancing Woman Ventures of Laramie, WY, brought silk-screened prayer flags and other gifts to the tradeshow.

A panel presentation looked at how women can shape the future of our world by holding political office. Pictured are (from left): Kim Eisner, Sally Bellerue, Sue Herbst, Judith Aitken, and Maxine Peterson.
