Creative 'Fires' Burn at WomenFest 2005
Women from all over the Four Corners
and nearby states attended the 2005 WomenFest conference on November
5 to experience myriad ways to discover and express their creative
selves. From dance to writing, meditation to divination, WomenFest-The
Fire Within offered an interesting spectrum of workshops led by
professional women from the community. Additionally, 28 local businesses
and organizations participated in the community trade show that
featured products and services of interest to women.
The one-day
event drew to a close with a moving interactive ceremony led by
Elisabeth Filar-Williams. Attendees gathered around a candlelit
altar to light a votive and voice their intentions for the betterment
of our world, as Julia Hesse of Sound Liberation drummed and chanted
softly in the background. Many women reflected on how the day's
activities encouraged them to realize their own potential, and expressed
their hopes for the continued personal and professional empowerment
of women worldwide.
